25+ Years of Grievance

A Brief History of Grievance

From Norrath to countless worlds beyond
Est. October 15, 2000

Founded on October 15, 2000, Grievance has grown from a single EverQuest guild into a community spanning more than two decades of online gaming. While games have come and gone, the friendships, traditions, and values that began in Norrath have remained at the heart of the organization.

Origins in EverQuest

Several future Grievance members began adventuring together on the 7th Hammer server shortly after the release of the Ruins of Kunark expansion. Many first played together in Mystic Champions before helping establish Moonshadows, a large family-oriented guild built around friendship and cooperation.

Grievance is Founded

Following differences in guild direction, several members established Grievance. From its beginning, the guild emphasized organized progression, consistent leadership, and a written charter that defined expectations while fostering a respectful, welcoming community.

2001–2003

EverQuest

Grievance established itself as a respected raiding guild while building friendships that would continue well beyond a single game.

2003

Star Wars Galaxies

Members formed Syn’di’cate (SYN) on the Radiant server, building one of the server’s largest player-run cities and becoming well known for its organization and community involvement.

2004

EverQuest II

With the launch of EverQuest II, Grievance returned to Norrath, refining a philosophy that balanced organized progression with a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere.

Becoming a Multi-Game Community

As online gaming evolved, Grievance evolved with it. Rather than remaining tied to a single title, the community embraced new worlds while maintaining the friendships and traditions that had begun in EverQuest. Members stayed connected through shared leadership, voice communications, forums, and community events, creating a home that extended far beyond any one game.

Today

More Than Twenty-Five Years Later

More than twenty-five years after its founding, Grievance remains a multi-game gaming community built on the same principles that inspired its creation:

  • Friendship before pixels
  • Respect for fellow players
  • Stable, consistent leadership
  • Organized gameplay
  • A welcoming home for newcomers and veterans alike

While individual game chapters naturally rise and fall as new worlds emerge, the community itself has endured. Grievance’s greatest accomplishment is not any single raid, server first, or game launch—it’s the lasting friendships that have carried from one adventure to the next for more than two decades.
